Have you spent a lot of time childproofing your home to make it as safe as possible for your toddler? If so, the idea of allowing them to engage in “risky play” might sound like it would be out of the question.
But there is something to be said for letting your young child take part in risky play. It'll allow them to develop important skills they might not be able to develop otherwise without ever putting them in any real danger.
You can encourage risky play in your home by investing in a Montessori climber, which is also known as a Pikler triangle. It's one of the simpler Montessori toys. But you'll find there will be so many benefits of Montessori climbers.
Learn about five of the benefits your toddler will enjoy below.
As its name would suggest, a Montessori climber will be designed for your child to climb on and over. While they're climbing on and over it, they'll strengthen their gross motor skills while also strengthening many of the major muscles throughout their bodies.
You'll soon discover that your child will be able to use their arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes better than they could before. They'll also be much stronger than they once were when they're constantly climbing up over a Montessori climber.
Even though a Montessori climber might seem like it would be simple to conquer, there will be a series of steps your child will have to take to do it. They'll need to do some careful planning if they're going to successfully work their way over the Pikler triangle.
This will subconsciously improve their motor planning skills. They'll start to realize they'll have to plan out their every move to make it up and over the Montessori climber.
There is a very good chance your child isn't going to be able to climb over the Montessori climber on their first try. In fact, it'll probably take them quite a few tries before they come even remotely close to doing it.
You might not think this would be good for your child. But it'll actually teach them to be persistent. It'll also teach them about the boundaries that they have and what they'll need to do to overcome them.
At some point, your child will eventually make it up and over the Montessori climber. You should give them as much time and space as they need to accomplish this goal.
When they finally do it, it'll help fill them with so much self-confidence and self-esteem. They might still be too young to 100% grasp the concept of taking pride in what they've accomplished. But you'll notice a big boost in their self-confidence and self-esteem that'll work wonders for the image they have of themselves.
The Montessori climber isn't just for climbing. It can really be used for almost anything your child might want.
For example, they might decide to throw a blanket over the top of it and turn it into a tent for a “camping” trip. You should encourage them to run with an idea like this since it'll help their imagination run wild.
This is just one more benefit that'll come along with investing in a Montessori climber.
As you can see, a Montessori climber will benefit your child in so many ways. Both their body and their mind will grow strong when you have one in your home.
You might also want to consider incorporating other Montessori activities into your child's life. You may even want to think about sending them to a Montessori school.
